Horror Movies for Halloween
by Linda C Butler

You have decorated the house and yard for Halloween, the crafts are done and the treats made, so now its time to curl up on the sofa with a scary, ghostly, horror or supernatural movie. Check out the selection at your nearby video rental store, or watch flea markets and garage sales for some of these:

Dracula, Dead and Loving It – Comedy, 1995
(Leslie Nielsen and Mel Brooks)
Grab onto your garlic as writer/director Mel Brooks presents a hauntingly hysterical version of Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula.  Leslie Nielsen lends his trademark bumbling to his portrayal of the formidable Count, who, between seductions and neck piercings, must avoid the acclaimed authority on vampires, Prof. Van Helsing (Brooks) in this “…inspired, demented comedy.”

Carnivore, 2002
From afar, the old Romero house looks like a decrepit old mansion, reputedly haunted, but what the locals don’t know is that behind the façade of the ancient building, the US government has built a state of the art high tech field lab which houses one of the world’s most gruesome experiments – a horrifying, genetically engineered, menacing carnivorous beast.

Sleepaway Camp, 1983

Welcome to Camp Arawak, where teenage boys and girls learn to experience the joys of nature, as well as each other.  But when these happy campers begin to die in a series of horrible accidents, they discover that someone, or something, has turned their summer of fun into a vacation to dismember.  Has a dark secret returned from the cap’s past, or will an unspeakable horror end the season forever.

The Others, 2002

A jet leaves on a red-eye flight from LA to Boston.  Bust early in the flight ten passengers awaken to a startling realization:  All of the other passengers have vanished, and the ground below is only ground.  Once they manage to land the plane, the situation doesn’t improve and a dread evil presence bent on their destruction is headed straight for them.
